Pornhub Optimizes Platform for Visually Impaired Users
As Part of Ongoing Effort to Make Website More Accessible, Leading Adult Entertainment Platform Will Now Feature Enlarged Text, Customized Color Contrasts and Keyboard Shortcuts
New York, NY (September 28, 2017) – Pornhub, the premiere online destination for adult entertainment, announced today that it has optimized its platform for visually impaired users, who now have access to several key features including enlarged text, customized color contrasts, keyboard shortcuts for ease of navigation and alternative image text to describe images through a dedicated site mode. The new version of the platform was designed using current best practices in web accessibility as outlined by the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) and developed using filters, plugins, extensions and screen readers to simulate visual impairments. Visually impaired members of the Pornhub Community were also consulted.

Throughout the developmental phase of the optimized platform, Pornhub consulted with generous visually impaired users who had reached out previously at accessibility@pornhub.com to help test and develop this new way of experiencing the site for users who have low vision, color deficiencies or are blind. Many of the changes made also help ease navigation and improve functionality of the site for visitors to the site using screen-reading software. Following its rollout, Pornhub will continue to make optimizations to the platform to better enhance the overall experience. This campaign is being championed by Pornhub’s philanthropic division Pornhub Cares, which has hosted several other initiatives including, just last year, the launch of a Described Video Category. Each video within the new category includes a voiceover reading a script that has been tailored and crafted to give the user full enjoyment of the scene and includes descriptions of the models, their actions, position changes, outfits, and settings—the original audio remains intact but will act as an underscore to the scene.
